Missing Class

Our English 101 class probably contains around 25 students but that was only the first week of the semester. Most individuals in that class think its okay to skip class almost every class period. Mr. Sweeney cannot think of something to get people’s attention in order for them to have the interest to come to class. He believes that it is our responsibility to come to class and learn all the knowledge he pours into our brains. After the first week of class only five to ten people decided to show up each day. It was a bit disappointing because some people really don’t care for their own education. I also feel like when one of us has a real excuse of why we can’t go to class our professor doesn't believe us, and honestly anyone would react this way. I just hope that people will eventually realize that they’re spending their money on this class and they should be responsible enough to show up and learn.

  1. Yes, same here in my English 102 class with Sweeney. We actually talked in class today about how that first day of class it was like 25 people in our class and only like a handful show up. I think it is irresponsible of the student to not show up and plus it's a waste of money if your not going to go the the class you paid for and for most of us our parents or guardians are paying for our schooling.

  2. I feel the same way. I have missed class for a stomach virus, car trouble, and a death of someone close to the family. I feel like all the people missing class for the hell of it are making it hard for anyone to miss class and be excused because it's not believable. I didn't even tell Sweeney why I was absent last time because I was just like "well he probably thinks it's because we have do read our drafts" but that's not it at all. I wish people would be responsible.

  3. I think it's up to the student to decide whether or not they should come to class or not. Some people really have reasons to miss due to family problems, sickness, etc! I agree that people take this for granted though, maybe if there was an attendance policy people would take him more seriously. It shouldn't have to be that way though considering we are in "college"

  4. I think you are more than 100 percent right. People are wasting their money when they don't attend class then fail because of not knowing what is going on!

  5. This is college, students should make the decision on whether they show up to class or not. Some students actually have places to be and if they decide to throw their money away just because they don't show up to class or they see it as pointless. That is on them. They obviously don't realize the consequences.

  6. When students stay away from class, it makes me wonder why they have no interest in being better writers and thinkers. And if they have no interest, why waste their money (or their parents' money) paying for an education that they don't want. One of the reasons I like having so many military and former military, students here at RBC, is that they almost always are here because they are more mature and want to learn and that makes them good classmates.
